1.1) кикапуИндейское племя, обитавшее на территории современных штатов Висконсин и Иллинойс. В 1650 его численность была примерно 2 тыс. человек. Воевало против США во время Войны за независимость [ Revolutionary War] и англо-американской войны 1812-14 [ War of 1812]. В 1819 индейцы племени переселились в Канзас, Миссури, Оклахому, а в 1852 - в Мексику. Ныне в США 3,5 тыс. (1990) человек; живут в резервации Кикапу [ Kickapoo Reservation], а также на месте основанной в 1883 резервации в Оклахоме, где владеют 25 кв. км земель, и в созданной в 1880-е годы для вернувшихся из Мексики потомков кикапу резервации площадью 5 кв. км в предместьях г. Игл-Пасс [Eagle Pass], шт. Техас. Придерживаются племенных обычаев и традиций в искусстве и ремеслах, обрядах погребения и т.п. Организованы в кланы, называемые по имени одного из священных животных. В прошлом в племени практиковалось многоженство2.Относится к языку фокс [ Fox], алгонкинской группы [ Algonquian]
